Blur Cull

Catch soft focus before it ships.

Browse scores every photo for blur as its thumbnail renders, and a separate focus check also looks at whether the subject's faces are sharp. Review the flagged photos in one pass, keep or hide with a keystroke, and nothing is ever deleted for you.

Not the same setting

This is separate from “Blurry faces” in MatchID settings

MatchID's Blurry faces option skips soft faces during matching, so a weak face doesn't get guessed at. Blur Cull flags whole photos during your culling pass, before MatchID even runs. Turning one off has no effect on the other.

Two kinds of flag. A photo gets a BLUR badge when no region of the frame is sharp — missed focus, camera shake. It gets a SOFT badge when the frame itself is fine but the subject's face is not, which a whole-frame score alone would miss. Frame scoring runs passively as thumbnails load; the face check is a separate pass you run with Check focus in the filter bar, since reading every face costs more time than a thumbnail sweep.

Review in one pass. The Blur chip in Browse's filter bar shows every flagged photo, BLUR and SOFT together. A second click switches to whatever you've hidden, and a third returns to the normal view. The Clean chip is the opposite: one click to see only what's left once the flagged and hidden photos are out of the way.

Keep, hide, decide once. On a flagged photo, Keep clears the flag for good — it never flags that photo again. Hide pulls it out of the working view without deleting anything, and Unhide brings it back. In the full-screen cull view the same choice is one key: K to keep, H to hide.

Set the sensitivity in Settings. Under Browse & Preview, pick from four levels: Off keeps scoring in the background without ever showing a flag, Lenient only catches unmistakable blur, Moderate is the recommended default, and Strict catches more but can flag a soft-looking keeper along with it. Changing the level re-checks what's already scored right away — your Keep and Hide calls are never touched by a level change. A separate toggle runs the focus check automatically as each card ingests, at reduced priority so the copy itself never slows down.

Worth knowing

Flags are a suggestion, not a delete

A deliberate pan or a motion-blur shot with any sharp region won't flag at all. Nothing is removed from disk — Hide only takes a photo out of the cull view, and it's always one click away in Blur ▸ Hidden.
