Getting started
MatchID settings.
Set these once. They decide how confidently MatchID matches, and where it writes.
- Required confidence sets where auto-approve starts: Standard auto-approves the most, Strict the fewest. Review depth is the other end of the band — it sets where the queue stops, independent of the auto-approve line. Tightening it hides the weakest matches rather than discarding them, so loosening it back brings them straight back with no reprocessing. The defaults are calibrated for team sports and are a good starting point.Press and hold to enlarge
- Blurry faces are skipped rather than guessed at. Motion blur strips the detail recognition depends on, so a soft face is far more likely to match the wrong person than the right one.Press and hold to enlarge
- Minimum face size keeps the crowd out. Faces smaller than the threshold are ignored, which is what stops spectators and the far bench from filling your review queue.Press and hold to enlarge
- Scope decides which indexed people a run compares against. Narrowing to one team is faster and more accurate than matching your whole library.Press and hold to enlarge
- Metadata settings decide which IPTC fields an approved match writes to, and the default token placement the Person Default button uses.Press and hold to enlarge
Set up
Build your metadata template
One template feeds both tagging paths, MatchID and manual CaptionID tagging — the Quick Tag box in the app. A one-time setup.
- Open Settings (⌘,) ▸ MatchID Metadata. This page holds the person-token add-on: which fields receive
{person_name}and friends when MatchID or CaptionID names someone. Token fields only fill in when a person is tagged, so set it once and forget it.Press and hold to enlarge - Select photos in Browse and press ⌘I to open the metadata editor. This is your working template, the one you'll edit event after event. Fill in captions, keywords, copyright, and any roster or person tokens, then select Save as Default so every new folder starts from it. Apply writes it to the selected photos, and when the template includes person tokens, applying also clears old name tags for a clean slate.Press and hold to enlarge
Names are embedded in the file itself (a sidecar for RAW), so they travel into Photo Mechanic, Lightroom, and Capture One. Nothing is locked in the app. Each folder remembers its own template, and a folder without one uses these defaults.
