Names and captions by hand

Tag by typing a name, number or code

Needs the Edit tags permission on the folder

The fastest way to put a name on a photo in Cloud is to type it. Open a photo in review and the tag box sits under the roster cards, reading Name, jersey # or \code\ — ↑↓ then Enter (⌘K). One list comes back, ranked, drawn from four different places at once.

What comes back

BadgeWhat it isWhat tagging it does
PERSONSomeone indexed in your headshot library.Writes the name to Persons Shown and links the photo to that person.
ROSTERA row from the CaptionID shortcode roster bound to this gallery.Writes the name, and gives the {col_b} to {col_f} tokens a row to read.
CODEAn action code, such as a celebration or a play.Never touches Persons Shown. It resolves through the {common_code} token instead.
GENERALA controlled keyword such as Fans or Venue.Writes the keyword.
A code is not a person, so it deliberately stays out of Persons Shown. If nothing in this gallery's template reads {common_code}, the panel says so in amber rather than letting you tag a code into a field that will never be written.

Typing a number searches jersey numbers

A query of digits is treated as a jersey number and nothing else, and it matches on the start of the number rather than the whole of it. Typing 1 still reaches 1, 10, 11 and 12, so the list narrows as you keep typing. Anything that is not all digits searches names and numbers together. An exact hit jumps to the top of the list.

Keys

KeyWhat it does
⌘KJump to the tag box from anywhere in the review window, including from inside a caption field.
↑ ↓Move through the results. The list wraps.
EnterTag the highlighted result. On someone already tagged, Enter removes them.
EscClear the box. With the box already empty, Esc closes the review window.
⌘← ⌘→Previous and next photo, which works while your cursor is still in the box.

Short codes

Wrap a code in the delimiter and it is applied the moment you type the closing one, without touching the arrow keys. The delimiter is a backslash unless your organization has changed it, and it is punctuation rather than a mode: \h23\ and h23 filter the list the same way.

When a closed code matches nothing, the box says so instead of failing quietly. It shows what you typed, then either a row of near matches to click or the line “Codes here look like” with real examples from this roster. The common cause is typing a bare jersey number when the codes carry a letter, such as 10 where the roster has a10.

Shortcodes and action codes appear here only when CaptionID is enabled for your organization. Without it the box still tags indexed people and keywords, and the placeholder drops the code half.

The other box, for anyone off the roster

Beside the tag box is Search & tag anyone…, which queries your indexed people live rather than the list already loaded for this gallery. Use it when the person is indexed but not on this gallery's roster.

The Roster and All toggle that controls it sits up on the tagged count line, not beside the box, so switching to All rings the box and points you at it. Roster searches this gallery's scope; All searches each indexed person in your organization.
